From Cat Pennenga Photography: “Marissa and Colin’s wedding was truly a family affair, and we left that night feeling like part of it! Marissa’s sisters did her hair and makeup (plus their Mom’s and each other’s), and Marissa’s high school friend came all the way from Pennsylvania to be her videographer! Their cozy, beachside wedding was made absolutely gorgeous with furniture and decor from The Reserve Vintage Rentals, designed by Priscilla Henriques of Inspired Events. Guests took breaks from the rocking dance floor to enjoy s’mores under the stars, and the whole day was totally magical!”
A Siesta Key wedding in Sarasota, FL
We took a trip to Ft. Lauderdale for my 30th birthday. On the night before my birthday, we were sitting on the balcony listening to the radio when Etta James “At Last” came on. I asked Colin to dance and in the middle of our dance, he got down on one knee and proposed. I didn't even know he had the ring with him on this trip. I was so surprised and said “Yes!”
About The Wedding
Colin and I both wanted a ceremony at the beach, but I didn't want it to be on a public beach. I searched for “private beach wedding” in Google and Pinterest for weeks before I finally stumbled upon Sunset Beach Resort in Siesta Key and fell in love. The property could sleep 40 on site and it had access to a private beach. I visited the site a month later and booked it immediately. Then I met Priscilla from the Reserve Vintage Rentals and she was able to help me create the sophisticated rustic outdoor wedding of our dreams!
Colin and I both have two sisters so we asked them to be a part of the ceremony, but we didn't want a formal bridal party. I didn't want them to buy matching dresses so I just asked that they wear a solid color so they looked somewhat coordinated.
Colin picked out his own navy suit and shoes.
I went dress shopping with my mom and ended up loving the first dress I tried on! The cap sleeves and lace bodice were gorgeous.
I loved that my sisters and mom helped me get ready. And I was so thankful that my mom walked me down the aisle. My stepfather passed away several years ago, but my mom and sisters pinned a picture of him to my bouquet so he was there walking down the aisle with us.
I loved our first dance to the band's live version of Ray Lamontagne “You Are the Best Thing.”
There was a moment after our first dance where we were seated at our head table, and we both made eye contact and smiled. We could see all of our friends and family seated and the sun setting in the background over the ocean. Everything just felt right.
The band closed the night with “Country Roads” since the bride's family was from WV and every one gathered for one last sing-along.
The Cake & Favors
We just wanted a simple naked cake with fresh flowers. Pastries by Design had a delicious assortment of flavors, but we went with a raspberry filled white cake with buttercream icing.
There was a fire pit in the reception area so we set up a s'mores station with prepared packs of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows. Colin's nieces and sisters prepared the packs the morning of the wedding so they were still fresh that evening. They did such a good job!
Personal Details & Traditions
Colin wore cufflinks that belonged to his paternal grandfather. Marissa wore earrings and a bracelet that belonged to her aunt Cookie.
We bought gifts for our parents. We gave our moms bracelets and we found a Rookie Chase Utley Phillies baseball card for Colin's dad. Colin and his dad have many great memories that revolve around the Philadelphia Phillies.
