Victoria and Wes are high school sweethearts, and they got married in their hometown of McMinnville in a beautiful church ceremony, followed by a Southern BBQ wedding reception at a family friend's house, complete with sweet tea and moon pies. They ended the night with an epic sparkler exit under a super moon, and Nashville Wedding Photographers | Jen & Chris Creed captured it all!
A southern BBQ wedding celebration at a private residence in McMinnville, TN
Wesley and I met at 16 through mutual friends and were high school sweethearts. We continued to date up to our sophomore year of college when he proposed. It was June 17, Wesley's brother's birthday, and I was at my house by myself eating a moon pie and about to get ready for the party. I had just talked to Wesley and he was supposed to be at work so imagine my surprise when he was at my front door! I had no idea what was going on so I went and sat down, but when I turned around he was on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was in complete shock! Obviously I said yes! He had actually planned on proposing on July 4th but as soon as he picked up the ring he immediately went to talk to my dad and then came to propose. He said he was too excited to wait. Wesley is the outdoorsy type and I am more of a book worm but together we introduce each other to different things.
We decided to wait until after we both graduated to get married and we set the date for June 22, 2013. We had a lot of time to decide what type of wedding we wanted and decided we wanted something that was classic and romantic but that reflected us as a couple. The bridesmaids' dresses were black one shoulder and my bridal gown as a classic ball gown with ornate beading. We got married in the church where I was once a flower girl. We wanted the ceremony to be about family so Wesley's father performed the ceremony and other family members made up the wedding party. Wesley's ring was his late grandfather's and I carried my late great grandmother's handkerchief as my something old. Our reception was held under a tent at a family friend's property with food consisting of barbecue, wings, various sides, sweet tea, and of course, moon pies! The groom's cake was red velvet cupcakes decorated with vintage fishing tackle and the wedding cake was a black and white buttercream cake bearing our new monogram. Our monogram was also on our napkins and programs. – Victoria
