Mix-and-Match Bridesmaid Dresses at David’s Bridal

Mix-and-Match Bridesmaid Dresses at David's Bridal

Who says a gal has to forfeit her own style just because she's a bridesmaid? I know that most brides choose one color and one style when selecting their bridesmaid dresses, but I personally love the trend of mix-and-match or mismatched dresses that seems to be popping up more and more often.

You might be wondering how you can mix and match bridesmaid dresses while still maintaining a cohesive look for your bridal party. One idea is to choose a single color and then allow each of your bridesmaids to select their own style of dress in that color. That's why shopping for bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal can be an excellent choice.

For starters, they have a lot of styles to choose from. Secondly, and more importantly if you want all your girls to wear the same color, you have a better chance of getting the shades to look uniform (as well as a lot more color choices). David's Bridal offers 42 color choices on a lot of the bridesmaid dresses, so chances are you'll find something you like.

One of the reasons I really like the idea of mismatched bridesmaid dresses is because not every woman looks fabulous in every style. Some cuts and styles are more flattering to certain figures than others. For example, one of your girls might look amazing in a strapless dress with a ruched waist, while another might look stunning in a dress with a bubble hem. It's just a fact of life. So unless each of your bridesmaids has the exact same body type (which is highly unlikely), this can be a really fantastic route to take.

Furthermore, by selecting one color and allowing your bridesmaids to choose their own styles, you can pretty much guarantee each girl will be happy with the way she looks on your wedding day. In the long run, a happy bridal party makes for a happy bride!

Another option I've seen brides using is one specific color and one specific style of dress; they mix it up by adding something like a belt or sash in each bridesmaid's color of choice. Or, another tack to take is a different pair of shoes or a different clutch for each bridesmaid. I think this is a good choice for brides who want a little more control over the uniformity of her bridal party while still letting each woman's personality to shine through.

For brides who really love color, another idea I like is to split your party in two and have half wear one color and the other half wear a second color. If you like bold contrast, this combo looks amazing in photos!

You might be a little worried about loosening the reins, so to speak. After all, for years, we've been conditioned to believe that all bridesmaids must look the same! However, if you take the time to discuss your vision with your girls, I'm sure each and every one of them will show up looking her best.

On that note, I'd just like to point out the “Wear Again Looks” David's Bridal offers in their bridesmaid dresses. None of these styles scream “bridesmaid” so your girls will most likely be able to find another occasion for which to wear them. Personally, I think this is a fabulous idea. After all, what better way to thank your bridesmaids than to pick out dresses that flatter each and every one of them and can be worn again?

What are your thoughts? Would you mix and match bridesmaid dresses for your wedding? How would you handle hair styles, jewelry and shoes?
