On the day of Crystal and Steve's wedding, the forecast was for rain and thunderstorms, but it was beautiful and sunny for most of the day. Ten minutes after their outdoor ceremony on the lawn of Oheka Castle ended, there was a heavy downpour, but they lucked out with some really lovely and dramatic portraits with the storm clouds in the background. Brian Hatton Photography LLC captured their incredible day!
A grand and elegant castle wedding in Huntington, NY
The first wedding Steve and I had gone to together as a couple was at Oheka Castle and it was such a memorable experience. I remember stepping outside during cocktail hour and walking around the beautiful gardens at sunset, marveling at the grandeur of the estate. It took my breath away. When we started planning our own wedding three years later, we wanted to take our guests, who were mainly from Manhattan, away to a magical place with a breath of fresh air. Oheka Castle was the perfect place for our nuptials and a fitting reminder of how far we had come since our last visit.
I loved the idea of getting married in a castle, but I didn’t want to feel like a girly princess in a ball gown. Instead, I wanted to bring an old New York City feel to the wedding with some modern classics and glam. I fell in love with my Stephen Yearick dress because despite my petite frame, it made me feel glamourous with all of the crystal detailing and the flattering mermaid silhouette. Steve picked out a midnight blue tuxedo that was dashing, but subtly unique. We kept the groomsmen in black tuxedos while I let my bridesmaids choose from a number of pastel colors and styles I found to be elegant, soft and feminine for an outdoor ceremony in May. I handmade their crystal belts for a personal touch.
We chose crisp, white flowers for the ceremony and reception to balance the other more striking details and keep the ambience classic and stately. I also loved how they were accentuated in the darker ballroom for the reception. My favorite floral design was for the place card table where we had a beautiful, natural wood tree decorated with flowers and candles hanging from the branches. We chose purplish uplighting for the reception to liven up the ballroom and have our guests feel they were at a fun dance party.
We thoroughly enjoyed our wedding from the heartfelt toasts to dancing the night away on the dance floor with our closest family and friends. Our wedding day truly felt like the perfect fairytale. I don’t remember the small details of what went wrong that day because the feeling of being surrounded by our loved ones, celebrating our new adventure as husband and wife is the warm, blissful feeling we will remember for a lifetime. – Crystal
